CANOPY

A roof structure constructed of rigid materials, including but not limited to, metal, wood, concrete, plastic, canvas or glass, which is attached to and supported by a building, or which is freestanding and supported by columns, poles, or braces extended to the ground.  Unlike a marquee, a canopy generally has very limited vertical surface area; and unlike an awning, a canopy is generally supported by vertical elements rising from the ground at two or more corners.
