Hello and welcome to the Town of Cary’s
online version of the Land Development Ordinance
(LDO). This
version of the LDO is known as the “Visual Interactive Code”,
or VIC, which is designed to make our LDO easier to use and
more accessible.
While every attempt is made to keep this on-line VIC version of
the LDO up-to-date, please note that it is NOT the official
version. There
are two ways to get an official copy:
• Call
the Town Clerk's
Office at
(919) 469-4011 for information on obtaining an official copy
of the LDO.
• A digital version of the official LDO
is available from the Municipal Code Corporation at http://www.municode.com/

This VIC version of the LDO includes photographs, sketches,
diagrams, tables, and links to other documents to assist in
explaining the regulations. The
VIC online version also includes commentary and
interpretation from the staff which is not available in the
official LDO document. Blue
text represents defined terms. Green
text represents links to other documents or portions of the
LDO. Red text
indicates that there is illustrative commentary about a
particular provision. These
commentary items are for illustrative purposes only.
You must view VIC using Windows and Internet Explorer 5.x or
higher. VIC uses
QuickTime™ to display some media. If
your computer does not have QuickTime™, instructions for
downloading it for free are included in the Using VIC
section. If you
are new to VIC, additional instructions on how to most
effectively use VIC are also included in the Using VIC
section. To see

click on the “Using VIC” button below.
While you can print directly from VIC using your internet
browser function, we recommend instead that you use the Town’s PDF
